Symphonies du ciel (2019) 42'36
With three recitatives by André Velter

The Big Bang occurred 13.8 billion years ago.
In one second, the first measure of time that ever was, the temperature reached 10 billion degrees.
The Recombination and the Cosmic Microwave Background occurred after 380 000 years. This was a period of gigantic oscillations in which the galaxies were born.
The Milky Way followed after 600 million years, 13.2 billion years ago.
The Earth is only 4.54 billion years old.

What does this have to do with music? Nothing, obviously... How can events that took place over billions of years be translated into music in a few minutes?
Faced with the initial chaos, the unmeasurable immensity of an ever-expanding universe, lucidity and humility are essential.
Nevertheless, it is a certain reverie that has led me to illustrate some sound images of these crazy moments with, I hope, a little more than a semblance of poetry and musical emotion.
André Velter's friendly and complicit presence has come to escort this journey by illuminating it with an extra light.

Schwarzland (2020), 74'26

“Schwarzland” is an anthology that revisits several musical moments from my own repertoire, the whole being conceived as a symphony in four movements.

Thanks to Daniel Teruggi for allowing me to use some moments of our common piece “Mano a Mano”.

Jean Schwarz (1939-)

Jean Schwarz, born in 1939, is an “elder” of INA grm.
In his career he has composed for the shows of Carolyn Carlson, Maguy Marin, Larrio Ekson, Françoise Dupuy, Serge Campardon, Petrika Ionesco, Bartabas, for the cinema: the films of J.-L. Godard, S. Moati, G. Blain, A. Resnais, A. Cavalier... and has collaborated with many jazz musicians.
Co-author with André Francis of the record boxes “Trésors du Jazz” and “Jazz Characters”, 500 CDs “Le Chant du Monde” 2002-2010.

André Velter (1945-)

Poet, essayist, radio producer, but above all traveller, André Velter was born in 1945 in the Ardennes. He divides his time between long-distance adventures (Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Tibet, Mongolia, China, the Far East) and the resonance of poems from all over the world. He has notably published “L'Arbre-Seul”, “L'amour extrême” and “La vie en dansant” in the Poésie/Gallimard collection. With Jean Schwarz, he has given numerous recitals and made several CDs: “Déclarations”, “La traversée du Tsangpo” (with Tenzing Gênpo and Laurent Terzieff), “Récital équestre” and “Décale-moi l'horaire”.

Avec trois récitatifs d’André Velter

Le Big Bang est apparu il y a 13,8 milliards d'années.
En une seconde, première mesure du temps qui fut jamais, la température atteignit les 10 milliards de degrés.
La Recombinaison et le Fond diffus cosmologique survinrent au bout de 380 000 années. Ce fut une période d'oscillations gigantesque où prirent naissance les Galaxies.
La Voie lactée suivit après 600 millions d'années, soit il y a 13,2 milliards d'années.
Quant à la Terre, elle date seulement de 4,54 milliards d'années.

Le rapport avec la musique ? Aucun, évidemment... Comment traduire musicalement des évènements qui eurent lieu pendant des milliards d'années en quelques minutes ?
Face au chaos initial, à l'immensité non mesurable d'un univers qui ne cesse de s'accroître, lucidité et humilité s'imposent.
Néanmoins, c'est une certaine rêverie qui m'a conduit à illustrer quelques images sonores de ces moments fous avec, je l'espère, un peu plus qu'un semblant de poésie et d'émotion musicales.
La présence amicale et complice d'André Velter est venue escorter ce parcours en l'éclairant d'un surcroît de lumière.

“Schwarzland” est un florilège qui revisite plusieurs moments musicaux de mon propre répertoire, le tout étant conçu comme une symphonie en quatre mouvements.

Merci à Daniel Teruggi pour m'avoir permis d'utiliser quelques instants de notre pièce commune “Mano a Mano”.

“Schwarzland” est dédiée à mon maître et ami Guy Reibel qui m'a fait faire mes premiers pas de compositeur.

André Velter (1945-)

Poète, essayiste, homme de radio, mais surtout voyageur, André Velter est né en 1945 dans les Ardennes.
